Three men have reportedly been deported from Saudi Arabia for being “too handsome” — with members of the Saudi religious police saying that “commission members [of the Commission For The Promotion Of Virtue and Prevention Of Vices] feared female visitors could fall for them.”
The men were from the nearby United Arab Emirates, so it was hardly like it was Brad Pitt, George Clooney and me (obviously) were kicked out. The men were in town for the Jenadrivah Heritage and Culture Festival in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. According to the local paper, the trio’s removal all started when an unnamed female artist showed up and festival officials decided that she, being a woman, could probably not help herself and would work herself into some sort of sexual frenzy.
From the Telegraph:
With a majority Sunni Muslim population, Saudi Arabia is a deeply religious and ultraconservative society which forbids women from interacting with unrelated males and refuses to accord them with the same rights as men.
